Yes, you replace the cables #3, #2 & #1 when you put them back. Watch the Reassembly video we have for this repair in our other video area.

when you are putting the screen and digitizer back on what order do you put the wires back on?

  6. pdaparts — January 31, 2010 #

It will depend on the part you need. It can run anywhere from $30 to $40 for the part at DirectFix com

I have a broken screen. How much do you think it will be too fix ?

  8. Tyrantavi — January 31, 2010 #

This videos is amazing, seriously. My LCD and digitizer is broken, i know what to do for that. I have a question i have come across from other users. My speakers only play aloud when someone is calling me or during a voice memo but not for anything else. Yes i have tried the headphone unplugging tactic. What should i do?

  9. pdaparts — January 31, 2010 #

    Yes here is the answer:

Cable Labeled #1: Just the LCD Display

Cable Labeled #2: Just the Touch Panel/Touch Screen

Cable Labeled #3: Handles the sensor and the earpiece.

Can some-one please tell me what cables 1, 2 & 3 specifically do. Eg. cable 3= touch screen response..

    Thanks

From what you described yes an IP-2212 at DirectFix com should solve the problem.

I dropped my phone and the screen completely went white. It has all the functionality because i can hear the slider and the buttons working when I have the sound on. would I only need LCD Part # IP-2212?

  13. pdaparts — January 31, 2010 #

If your only issue is dead pixels then just and LCD Part # IP-2212 from DirectFix com will do the job.

I have an iPhone with dead pixels and lines across the screen. If I were to get this, would there be no more dead pixels?

  15. pdaparts — January 31, 2010 #

No problem. We carry the back plastic cases at DirectFix com

How to tell which Screen part you need for the iPhone 3G

    - LCD Only: If the image under the glass is broken and the touch panel is NOT then you only need an LCD.

    - Touch Panel aka Digitizer: If the top touch panel or aka glass top is cracked or broken but the image under it is fine then you only need the Touch Panel.

    - Complete Screen with Touch Panel and LCD: If the top touch panel is broken and the lcd image is either black liquid or cracked you need a complete screen

the top of the phone is the Digitizer right?
and the lcd is the black object
correct me before i make a purchase.

  19. pdaparts — January 31, 2010 #

Yes, when you put it back together you go 3, 2, 1. Take a look at the reassembly video we did in HD.

when u connect the cable back do u put it back in that order like 1,2, and 3 or backward 3,2, and 1?

  21. raineman2009 — January 31, 2010 #

    Thanks

  22. pdaparts — January 31, 2010 #

Either will work. The IP-2213 is just the touch panel. It is cheaper but requires more work to install. The IP-2342 is already in the frame and requires less work but cost more. Your choice.

  23. drewLegend — January 31, 2010 #

I have a 3G with a cracked/broken screen, yet it remains full functions and the LCD screen looks fine. Could you tell me if I need the IP-2342 or the IP-2213? Thanks for these videos!

  24. pdaparts — January 31, 2010 #

The screws will be fine after the repair. From your description you will need either an IP-2213 or an IP-2342 from DirectFix(dot)com. They both will do the same job but one is less work and cost more. Your choice.

Excellent how-to! The vid quality is vastly improved over the v1 iPhone vid. I suspect the 3gs vid to be 1080p lol. I have a 3g with shattered glass but retains full function. What will I need to order? Also, do the exterior screws show wear after the work and need to be replaced?
