if you use spot metering its really quick.

    No lag with the pics.

You mentioned you could take a picture from startup in a second and a half. I’m looking for a camera that takes the picture when I press the button (of course after pressing it half way down to auto focus). I hate cameras that have a delay. Timing is everything when taking a picture. Does this camera have a split second delay? Does it take pictures instantly?

I did not record this video with the tz5.

The crappy audio and video is from my laptop cam.

thanks for the reply – camera looks amazing, the only video i need is for blog type stuff – so me talking on the camera.

    The audio is so so.

There has been a video posted on you tube about the lack of audio quality.

The guy harps and goes on and on and on and on and on..

My opinion is that its a very good point and shoot camera, and second its a very good video recorder.

If your serious about getting top notch video, then get a cam corder.

If your more serious about your photography then get a 5000.00 digital slr.

This is a great cam / vidcorder for the money.

hi thanks for the video upload…have you noticed any problems with the audio when recording – ie any noise or the sound is not clear when you play the movies back on the camera or pc.?

thanks for the firmware info, i upgradd mine and resolve the issue.. yeah great camera i enjoy it very much.
pretty much the feat. caught my attention 10x for a compact camera and 28mm wide angle.. scene modes were awesome.. my fave is the starry starry night.. which u can take great light effects in dark condition.. many more to tell…
plus it has a leica lens which is the bentley of all lenses.. and the feel of the camera i kinda retrowey oldschool. great camera

I bought my camera 5/30/08 and i have had to send it to chicago 2 times to have the lens assembly replaced. I havent heard of anyone else having the problems that I have. I do recomend buying the extended warranty if you are going to buy this camera.

There is a firmware update for the tz5 on panasonic’s web site. It fixes the focus issues.

i think my video spells it out nicely.

I am happy with it. Finally i have a camera that makes me want to be a better photographer.

Is this camera great plse help me. THX

  18. TheRealChina — June 3, 2010 #

i have this camera and i’m happy with all except in the video mode, it is very easy to loose focus but regains back quick. When i shoot video in 720p HD mode, i’ve to move the camera very very very very slow so it doesn’t loose focus but it still does.

no, i was wondering this myself when i first got the camera. The software does a good job, but it seems to be a oversite on panasonics part for leaving that off.

Glad i could be a little help to you.

It records on quicktime format .mov

  21. tomatos11 — June 3, 2010 #

thanks for the review! I bought the camera too after reading the review.

With stitching photos together; on my old canon camera it has a function where it lets you take a photo and then shows you the edge of the photo that you just last took so you can match the next frame with it as to make sure that there is some overlap between the photos so that the software can stitch the photos together, I however can’t seem to find this function on the panasonic…..does it have this function?

    thanks

    i got a a-data 8gb card from frys.
It was labeled high speed, but theres no actual speed rating. Its a micro sdhc card with a sd adapter. I figure the future is the micro sd cards so i always buy them and use an adapter.

  23. VINIKOR2 — June 3, 2010 #

What kind of card do you use for the HD video? How many MB/s?

  24. selitosone — June 3, 2010 #

does it record in avi format??

    answer me please.

for the money its one of the best cameras on the market. My pic’s are much better than my friends cameras. I would have went for the always good canon sd series camera’s, but the zoom did it for me. Canon sd cameras only go out to 2.5 – 3 x, where as the tz5 goes to 10x. I think they should have made it go to 11x just for the spinal tap referance. The canon picutre quality has been rated by others to be 9/10 and the tz5 8.5/10. Hardly a diff when it comes to reality, but the zoom makes up for it
